Guglielmo Marconi was one of the first to develop commercial workable radio communication. He sent and received his first radio signal in Italy in 1895. Some believe that Nikola Tesla (or others) invented it. See the related links area if you are interested in reading about the controversy and the different patents that were granted.
While some people say that Nikola Tesla (a Serbian-American) invented what became radio, many others attribute it to Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor. But actually, a number of men (and a few women) contributed to radio's growth and development. The period of time when this all took place was the late 1800s and early 1900s. Back then, radio was not called "radio"-- it was called "wireless," because unlike the telephone or the telegraph, it did not need wires in order to transmit its signal through the air (which back then was called the "ether").
Some of the first broadcasts of voice and music were achieved by a Canadian inventor named Reginald Fessenden in 1905 and 1906; and by 1912, a college radio station had been founded by Charles "Doc" Herrold and his wife Sybil-- this station even took requests from listeners (although very few people had the equipment to receive the station in 1912). By 1920, commercial broadcasting began in the USA; it began around that same era (1920-1922) in several other countries as well.
There are two people who were credited with the invention of the radio: Guilielmo Marconi and Nikola Tesla. Tesla was the first to be given the U.S. patent in 1900, but in 1904 changed its decision and gave it to Marconi.

Many inventors worked on what became known as radio, but was originally called "wireless." The best known, and the one often credited with inventing it, was Guglielmo Marconi. But some sources say it was actually Nikola Tesla.
So people can listen to amazing music.
Frenchman Louis Lumiere is often credited with the invention of the motion picture camera in 1895.The first radios were developed in 1879,
Many people have been linked with the discovery of the radio. Technically the first radio to be transmitted through electromagnetic waves was in 1980. Many others have since developed the strength and efficiency of the commonly known radio.
