Mary Shelley, a writer in the 19th century, wrote "Frankenstein" in 1818. This is a piece of literature that has truly stood the test of time, and has been re-enacted and re-written many times and in many different ways. Universal Pictures released a film in the early 1900s that followed the story of the monster Frankenstein. This picture, along with many other re-enactments are what helped propel her original story to the fame that it now widely receives.
The story is a double and triple frame. The main narrator is the Captain of the ship caught in the ice of the Arctic Ocean. The secondary narrator is Dr. Frankenstein himself recounting his life. Another narrator is the monster telling Dr. Frankenstein what happened to him when the Dr. was not around to know. This (the monster's frame) occurs when the Dr. and he meet on the Mer de Glace. The Dr.'s frame comprises the bulk of the novel. The Captain's frame merely dominates the beginning and the end.
