Night Owl, usually written as a Noun clause ( a two word phrase) was applied to the rush or (Bulldog) edition of the New York Daily News commencing back in the late sixties. My Dad and I used to read it when we came home from the slot car track and stopped in the Royale delicatessen (still extant) on Bergen avenue. the Night Owl was sold by street vendors and had a graphic cartoon (of sorts) of an Owl on the upper left hand corner. it was Daily News pure and simple but an Advance issue. the novelty held considerable value tomorrow"s headlines at say, 9 PM when the slot racing meets usually broke up. Brings back memories. Night Owl was not- in this context a cartoon character but sort of a mascot like , vaguely Ronald McDonald.
