Well, I think the Pokémon creators were trying to make it Ash and Misty. It looks like they are trying to keep Misty's character a live, and it was the most obvious (at least to me).

Ash likes all of them but only as friends however there are people that believe that Ash likes Misty and others that believe he likes May, Dawn or Iris for a romantic interest. This is from the various Pokémon fandoms and these couples are known as "shippings". Ash with Misty is called PokéShipping, Ash with May is called AdvanceShipping, Ash with Dawn is called PearlShipping and Ash with Iris is called NegaiShipping.

Yes, actually its Dawn! Not misty or may! He likes all of the girls but Dawn the most because he pays more attention to Dawn not may or misty!
