However, there does remain a legacy of the days of the British Empire which means that Britain still commands a huge amount of respect, has a great deal of influence, is recognised historically as the founder of the English-speaking world, and retains a Commonwealth. It also has the same level of high standards as the US in the fields of education, health care, technical research & development, and Western business and commerce. There are a few areas, such as civil rights and gun control, where Britain is actually superior to US law.
