The California State Senate has 40 members; it is one of the two houses of the California State Legislature. The US Senate has two members from each of the 50 states for equal representation, therefore California has two senators in the US Senate.
California has 40 senators, one for each district.
California is one of the 50 states of the United States.
The state of California elects two United States Senators, who are sent to Washington, D.C., to the U.S. Capitol building, to the U.S. Senate, which is one of the two parts of the U.S. Congress. The state of California is also divided into 40 state senate districts, each of which elects one state senator, who is sent to Sacramento, to the State Capitol building, to the California Senate, which is one of the two parts of the California state legislature.
The Constitution allows two senators per state. As there are fifty states, there are one hundred senators. When there were fewer states, there were fewer senators.
100
Like each of the United States, California has two senators, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein and they both go to Washington. You may be confusing "senators" in the Senate with "representatives" in the House of Representatives, which together make up Congress. Representatives are elected from the states' districts, the number of which may increase with population growth, hence the House is the most populous chamber of Congress while the senate will always have one hundred senators.

There are 2 Senators from each of the 50 states, as specified in Article One, Section Three of the US Constitution. If additional states join the Union, the number of Senators will increase to accommodate these new states at 2 Senators per state, with no restriction on the total number. There are two senators for each state and 50 states, making 100 senators altogether.
