The Boston Massacre, called the Boston Riot by the British, was an incident on March 5, 1770, in which British redcoats killed five civilian men. British troops had been stationed in Boston since 1768 in order to protect and support crown-appointed colonial officials attempting to enforce unpopular Parliamentary legislation. Amid ongoing tense relations between the population and the soldiers, a mob formed around a British sentry, who was subjected to verbal abuse and harassment. He was eventually supported by a small company of troops, who were assaulted by verbal threats and thrown objects. They fired into the crowd, apparently without orders, instantly killing three people and wounding others. Two more people died later of wounds sustained in the incident.
The crowd eventually dispersed after Acting Governor Thomas Hutchinson promised an inquiry, but reformed the next day, prompting the withdrawal of the troops to Castle Island. Eight soldiers were arrested and charged with murder. Defended by Patriot lawyer John Adams, six of the soldiers were acquitted, while the other two were convicted of manslaughter and given reduced sentences.
Depictions and reports of the event, notably the colored engraving produced by Paul Revere, further heightened tensions throughout the Thirteen Colonies. The event is widely viewed as foreshadowing the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War five years later.
Both of the sides (British & colonials) had their faults. King George the 3rd started this all by spending the money and pushing the taxes too high, in the opinion of the colonials. The colonists were angry and poured out their anger on a small group ob British soilders by throwing snowballs, stones, and had clubs in their hands. Then the soilders shot 5 citizens also leaving 6 injured.
no one knows for sure. It depends on your opinion. It's sorta like the chicken and the egg dilemma. Which one came first? It's the same situation. t could have been the colonists fault for starting the protests, or the British's fault for firing. Sorry that i couldn't help you and answer you accurately.
To this date, historians aren't exactly sure. However, there is evidence that can help lead to a theory. It depends on your opinion on the event, how you took in everything that happened, and other factors.
For some people it is a matter of opinion, but colonists were angry with the British and decided to mess around with some soldiers. They began to throw rocks and such at the soldiers, which angered the British. One of the soldiers fired a shot, and whether it was accidental or not, the rest of the soldiers began to shoot as well. You could say that the colonists were responsible for throwing rocks at the soldiers, but that is no reason for the British to open fire on civilians.
It might be the colonists because they were taunting the British, but it also might be the British because they fired into the crowd by the order of Captain Preston.

In my opinion it was the solders fault. Why? Because they weren't suppose to fire their guns. They killed, hurt, or wounded a lot of insistent colonist.
