ANSI pronounced as it is spelled. It is a private organization that standardizes Industrial things- like the ASA ( American Standards Association) Photographers are familiar with ASA film ratings. the two organizations may well have merged. The Bureau of Standards ( federal) sadly no longer exists, having been axed during Clinton:s economy moves. So the private agencies maintain the standards for such things as screw threads, battery sizes, and as stated Film speed ratings. ANSI, unlike the old ASA is primarily concerned with Metallurgical standards as I recall.
