Elijah (Hebrew: אליהו, Eliyahu ; also known as Elias) was a prophet in Israel in the 9th century BC. He appears in the Hebrew Bible, Talmud, Mishnah, Christian Bible, and the Qur'an. According to the Books of Kings, Elijah raised the dead, brought fire down from the sky, and ascended into heaven on a whirlwind. In many parts of the New Testament, both Jesus and John the Baptist are frequently thought to be Elijah. Based on a prophecy in Malachi, many Jews still await his return as precursor to the coming of the Messiah.

Quick reference;

John the Baptist as Elijah;

; Mark 9:13 : But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him. :

(3:1; 4:1, 5) "The day cometh"

The gospel of Mark claims that John the Baptist fulfilled the prophecy given in Malachi. But the Malachi prophecy says that God will send Elijah before "the great and dreadful day of the LORD" in which the world will be consumed by fire. Yet John the Baptist flatly denied that he was Elijah (Elias) in John 1:21 and the earth was not destroyed after John's appearance. Malachi Prophecy;4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 4:5Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

Elias is the Greek form of Elijah. This can lead to some confusion when these names are used. One therefore must determine who the writer is referring to. Those who bring messages are sometimes referred to as an Elias. Elijah was the last prophet to hold the keys of the priesthood.

Elijah (Eliyahu) is introduced as a full-fledged prophet (1 Kings 17). We are not given his early life-story, but like very many of the Israelites, he was a Torah-disciple.

Who were Elias and Enoch?

According to the Bible, Enoch and Elijah are the only two people God took to heaven without them dying. Genesis 5:24 tells us, "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Second Kings 2:11 tells us, "...suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind." Enoch is described as a man who "walked with God for 300 years" (Genesis 5:23). Elijah was perhaps the most powerful of God's prophets in the Old Testament. There are also prophecies of Elijah's return (Malachi 4:5-6). Since, Elijah and Elias is the same.(Elias in Spanish)

Who was Elisha?

Another answer from our community:Elisha was the disciple of Elijah chosen by God. When Elijah ascended to heaven Elisha took on his place as the main Prophet to Israel.1 kings 19 (speaking to Elijah) 15 The LORD said to him, "Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. 17 Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu. 18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel---all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him."

Were Elijah and Elisha related?

A:In spite of the similarities in their names, there is nothing in the Bible to suggest that Elijah and Elisha were related. 'Elijah' is a simple compound of two Hebrew words that are names of God, 'El-YHWH' (El and Yahweh or Jehovah), or perhaps two gods known to have been worshipped in ancient Israel. Archaeologists and biblical scholars say that El, the Semitic father of the gods and Yahweh were once quite separate gods, but over time became syncretised as one God, the national God of Israel. 'Elisha' is a compound of two Hebrew words that mean "El saves" (or God saves). Both Elijah and Elisha were capable of performing miracles and both had solar aspects, and there is evidence that they might have been worshipped as incarnations of a sun god, long before being transformed in Hebrew tradition into mortal heroes. In Elijah's one great biblical miracle (1Kings 18:19), he challenged the king to let the opposing priests compete with him to call upon their gods to start a fire under a bullock carcass, something he demonstrated he could do with ease. Elijah called down fire from heaven onto his opponents in 2 Kings chapter 1. Rather than die, Elijah was taken up into heaven by in a whirlwind, accompanied by a fiery chariot (2 Kings 2:11) - travel through the heavens in a fiery chariot was the preferred means of transport for the ancient sun gods.Elijah simply granted his supernatural powers to his companion and protege, Elisha, who soon demonstrated that he had these powers by becoming the third person, after Joshua and Elijah, to divide the waters of the Jordan.So much of the stories about Elijah and Elisha can be regarded as mythical that the names and solar aspects really could indicate the earliest origins of the two prophets was as the sun god, who in turn was El-YHWH, the national God of Israel. This is a hypothesis that would explain the surprising similarities in the stories about Elijah and Elisha, making them related as incarnations of the same God in earliest tradition.Answer:No, they were not. Elisha was a faithful disciple of the Prophet Elijah and became one of his successors - main one as he received a 'double-portion' of blessing from him - God's Holy Spirit empowering him to do acts. Elisha took the mantle of Elijah and continued with it as God directed Him to do. The story may be read in 2 Kings and is highly recommended so the reader may properly discern the facts as presented.

What effect is created when the hawker and Elijah converge on hornbeck as the hawker cries hot dog in the same instant Elijah cries bible in Inherit the Wind?

The convergence of the hawker crying "hot dog" and Elijah crying "bible" in the same instant creates a juxtaposition between the mundane and the profound. It highlights the clash between commercialism and spirituality, underscoring the themes of materialism versus faith present in "Inherit the Wind." Additionally, the moment adds a touch of irony and humor to the scene.
