∙ 15y agoThe Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien was originally published in Great Britain by the publishing firm Allen & Unwin in 1954-55. In the early 1960s, a pirate, non royalty-paying edition was released by American publisher Ace Books. After this dispute was resolved, subsequent authorized American editions were published by Ballantine Books and Houghton Mifflin.
