Jalal Talabani (Kurdish - جەلال تاڵەبانی) (Arabic - جلال طالباني)is the President of Iraq in 2013. He assumed office on 2005 April 7 as the first elected president under the country's new constitution, created after Saddam Hussein was deposed. Talabani has a Kurdish background and has fought for Kurdish independence and rights for over 50 years. He is also the first non-Arab president of Iraq. After the election on 2010 March 7, Talabani remained president.
Nouri al-Maliki is the prime minister of Iraq and the most powerful man in the country. He is the leader of the Islamic Dawa Party. Jalal Talabani is the president of the country; however, he does not wield much executive power.
