Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who was born in 570 AD. God revelation of Quran to prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel (Jibril) started in year 610 AD through the year 632 (year pf prophet Muhammad; PBUH; death).
There is no spiritual head of the Muslims like Catholics have with a pope. Traditionally, it was the Amir al-Mu'mineen, commander of the faithful, who was the political and leader of the Muslim empire. As there is no longer a Muslim empire, there is no one in this position. There never was a spiritual leader of the Muslims, although there are scholars who make rulings on faith based on the sources of the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and the Qur'an.
As far as I am aware Islam does not have a single spiritual leader, in the same way that Christianity has the Pope. Until the end of the Ottoman Empire (1918) the sultan of the Ottoman Empire was the de facto spiritual leader of Islam.
