Filipinos followed a number of religions. Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism were the main religions being practiced by Filipinos. Because the ancient Malays were Buddhists and Hindus. Malay and Arabs spread Islam to the Philippines, thus turning the Philippines into an Islamic state. Until the Spanish reached the Philippines, and converted 95% of the population to Catholicism.

Why Filipinos are being called Malay?

Filipinos are called Malay because the majority of the population in the Philippines is descended from Austronesian tribes, who are part of the larger ethnic Malay race. The term "Malay" is used to describe a broad ethnic group that includes people from various Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines. Additionally, the Malay language is one of the official languages of the Philippines.

Are there Malays in the Philippines?

No there are no ethnic Malays in the Philippines. Not even in Mindanao or the Sulu Archipelago which touches Malaysia's northeastern most end. The presence of ethnic Malays in the Philippines is old and outdated. Because what people (Filipinos in particular) used to believe was that ethnic Malays came to the Philippines from Malaysia and Indonesia and formed one big happy family. "Bogus" is the only term I can use to describe this lie, because that is what it is. Bogus. Ethnic Malays originated from Yunnan, China. The origin that created who we know as the Malays then reached Tawian, Philippines and then later Borneo and Sumatra. Malays are also descended from Thailand.Filipinos aren't even closely related to ethnic Malays. Sure, Filipinos and Malays are related because they are both Austronesian people. But Filipinos are only distantly related to ethnic Malays. The ONLY ethnic group from the Philippines that is closely related to Malays are the Tausug. The Tausugs are Muslims and even they don't consider themselves Malay. Even the Filipino Muslims don't consider themselves Malays. So no, there are no ethnic Malays in the Philippines. Malays don't form either a majority, minority or any population in the Philippines at all.

Are Filipinos Malay race?

Yes, Filipinos are "Malay" by race definately, but not by ethnicity. Many people think that ethnic Malays are Malaysians, Indonesians, Bruneiens and Filipinos. On another hand, many people think that the Malay Race is ONLY Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines. For both are big misconceptions. Ethnic Malays, are centered around countries and islands south and west of the Philippines, excluding the Philippines itself. The Malay "Race" however, not only ecompasses the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei but ALL of Southeast Asia, all of Oceania (Micronesia, Polynesia and Melanesia), and the African island of Madagascar. So this means, that Samoans, Tongans, Fijians, Hawaiians, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Burmese and Africans from Madagascar are all "Malays" by race. NOT ethnicity. So are Filipinos part of the Malay Race? Yes, they are because Malay Race is simply an easier term for "Austronesian people", or the "sailing race". But are Filipinos ethnic Malays? Mmm...yes and no. By their origin yes, but as of today Filipinos do NOT speak Malay or a form of Malay as a native/national language. So no, Filipinos are not ethnic Malays. Malays don't even make a minority population in the Philippines. In fact, they don't live in the Philippines at all. The only Malays you'll find in the Philippines are probably tourists or overseas workers from Malaysia or Indonesia. That's all, no more.

Are Filipinos Chinese and spanish?

No. Filipinos are an Austronesian ethnic and cultural group in South East Asia. They are more closely related to groups like the Hawaiians and Malays. However, there is a significant Spanish influence due to the Spanish colonization.

What is jocano theory?

his theory is about the peopling process of southeast Asia. he argued that Filipinos (natives) today are results of long evolution. with this, he contradicted the wave theory of beyer. he also argued that Filipinos are not from malays but rather malays are from Filipinos (this is supported by the discovery of the tabon man in tabon cave, palawan, Philippines which dated older than any early man fossils discovered in the Malay peninsula). know this because my professor now in history is a student of jocano.

What is the similarity and difference between biggest archipelago Indonesia and second to the biggest archipelago Philippines?

Yeah, Malaysian-Malays and Filipinos look a like. Because Filipinos and Malays share the same origin. But, Malaysians are easily distinguishable by their names and their clothing. Malaysians have Arabic names, and they were sarongs. Filipinos, have Spanish and English names and they don't wear sarongs.
