Van Halen's lineup has changed a few times over the years, generally regarding their lead singers.
The original lineup of Van Halen (as they were when their first studio album was released):
David Lee Roth - Lead Vocals
Eddie Van Halen - Guitars
Alex Van Halen - Drums
Michael Anthoy - Bass
In 1985, Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth as the band's singer. He went on to sing on each of the band's albums before leaving the band before 1998's Van Halen III, which featured Gary Charone from the band Extreme on lead vocals. That particular album was generally considered a major disappointment, both in sales and in fan response.
Sammy Hagar returned to the band to record three new songs and go on tour to support a greatest hits collection called The Best of Both Worlds, only to leave the band shortly after the tour ended, taking bassist Michael Anthony with him.
The current Van Halen lineup:
David Lee Roth - Lead Vocals
Eddie Van Halen - Guitars
Alex Van Halen - Drums
Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie's son) - Bass
David Lee Roth from 1972-1985, but he left the band to be a solo artist. From 1985-1996, Sammy Hagar became the lead singer. From 1996-1999, Gary Cherone became the lead singer. Sammy Hagar came back to Van Halen from 2003-2005. David Lee Roth becomes lead singer in 2006, and is the lead singer of Van Halen to this present day.
