The Center was originally christened in 1956 as the General Electric training center based in Crotonville, NY. It was used as a simple training facility until Jack Welch took it on in 1982. He wanted to use it as a multipurpose tool. To simultaneously breed a workforce of highly trained leaders and innovators all while reinforcing the culture and direction of the future GE. It was renamed the John F. Welch Leadership Center in 2000 by CEO Jeffrey Immelt. Immelt and William Conaty (Senior VP, Corp Human Resources) renamed the center in honor of Jack Welch's 20 years as CEO celebration. The center currently sits on 53 acres in Crotonville, NY. With almost 10,000 people being trained there annually it is almost the size of a small university.
