That is not a serial number (that gun does not have one) it is a model number. Your shotgun is a High Standard Flite King- good guns, by the way. They sell used for about $130

I was at a gun show in TX (Jul 2010) and was offered $125 for my JC Higgins Model 20-12; however, that was a dealer.

You first have to determine who made the rifle since JC Higgins was a brand name used by Sears. Sears purchased rifles from several different manufacturers (Winchester, High Standard, and Marlin to name a few) and had their name (Sears or JC Higgins) applied. When you have determined who actually made the gun, a JC Higgins marked model is worth about 10-20% less than the manufacturer's model.

Likely is a Savage Model 24 made for Sears under the JC Higgins name. Most of those run about $225, depending on condition.

Is it a shotgun or rifle? Caliber/gauge? Not a model number I have seen. They are usaully marked something like J.C. Higgins Model 20, 101.1, 583.13, 583.2078 etc.. Without more info, no way to know who made it. Could be be Sako, Savage, Marlin, High Standard, Stevens

JC Higgins Model 20Early 1960's, around 1964.From another FAQ Farmer: 1962 the model 20 pump shotgun was made from 1947 to 1962 under the JC. Higgins brand wich was owned by Sears . The guns were made by High standard manufacturing co. Sears owned abought 25 % of High standard From 1962 on they were sold under the Sears name until 1968 .High Standard also sold under their name High standard model K100 Flite King. Both the k100 and the model 20 are excellent shotguns well made of the high quality and one of if not the smoothest pump action shotguns made High standard made some of the finest guns .
