The Tea act happened because of Britain needing money to pay for the French & Indian war. They taxed colonists and when they refused to pay, Britain ran out of money. So when the king's close friend in the British East India Company said he was overstocked with tea. The King bought this tea hoping to sell it to the colonist for very cheap but taxing it. This act put many importers out of business so the colonists got mad. They stole tea from one of the boats, and dumped it into the harbor as a political movement to show the British that the don't need them.

Hope this helps :)
