The Yankees weakness in the 1980's into the 1990's was pitching. The best pitcher the Yankees had in the early 1990s would have to be Jimmy Key but he did not start pitching for the Yankees until 1993. In 1993 , and 1994 Key won 18, and 17 games. In 1995 an injury kept him to one win. The Yankees didn't have any other pitchers that would stand out during this time. Scott Sanderson won 16 games in 1991 with a 3.81 era, and 12 wins 4.92 ERA in 1992.

The New York Yankees used a total of ten pitchers in the 1996 World Series. The starters were Andy Pettitte (Games 1 and 5), Jimmy Key (Games 2 and 6), David Cone (Game 3) and Kenny Rogers (Game 4). The relievers used were Mariano Rivera, Brian Boehringer, Jeff Nelson, John Wetteland, Dave Weathers and Graeme Lloyd. Wetteland was the closer; he was named World Series MVP.

2001 WS Game 4 pitchers

Orlando Hernandez started the game for the New York Yankees in game 4 of the 2001 World Series. Mike Stanton game in the game with 1 out in the 7 inning. Ramiro Mendoza entered the game with one out in the 8th inning , and pitched the 9th inning as well. Mariano Rivera pitched the 10th inning, and got the win.
