Lt. John B. Putnam, Jr. is credited for the saying. Putnam, a highly decorated member of the US Air Force, is best known for his military record during World War II. He died while in service to his country when his plane crashed July 19, 1944. He was 23 years old.
James Neil Hollingsworth writing as Ambrose Redmoon wrote "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the judgment that something is more important than fear."
