The song "It Had To Be You" was originally written and published in 1924 by musician Isham Jones and lyricist Gus Kahn.

The first recording of this song was recorded by Sam Lanin & his Orchestra for the Okeh label. It was recorded on March 20th, 1924.

There are literally thousands of recordings of this song by a very broad variety of artists. Some very successful recent recordings of this song include a 1979 recording by Frank Sinatra with Billy May & his Orchestra on the album "Trilogy".

You can purchase an MP3 of that recording here:

More recently (and perhaps even more successfully) the song was recorded by Harry Connick Jr. on the 1989 soundtrack for the motion picture "When Harry Met Sally".

Frank Sinatra sang it in 1979.

A more recent, probably more popular version was recorded in 1989 by Harry Connick Jr. for the soundtrack to the film "When Harry Met Sally." It's a great version. You can purchase it here:

The only song that has these lyrics, or that is similar to such that has been stated in the question is the song "It had to be you"

Why do I do, just as you say

Why must I just, give you your way

Why do I sigh, why don't I try - to forget

It must have been, that something lovers call fate

Kept me saying: I have to wait

I saw them all, just couldn't fall - til we met

It had to be you, it had to be you

I wandered around, and finally found - the somebody who

Could make me be true, and could make me be blue

And even be glad, just to be sad - thinking of you

Some others Ive seen, might never be mean

Might never be cross, or try to be boss

But they wouldn't do

For nobody else, gave me a thrill - with all your faults, I love you still

It had to be you, wonderful you

It had to be you
