Because despite being an anti-hero blondie has a good heart. Like giving a cigar for the dying soldier to smoke and covering him up with his coat. The bad (angel eyes) kills anyone for the right price and allows people to be beaten up under his nose at the war camp. The ugly (tuco) is both bad and good, where he tries to kill blondie, but also saves him. He does things his way being a bandit, which was the ugly way, the hard way as he says to his brother.

Then the Good forces the Ugly to stand atop a rickety wooden cross with a noose around his neck. As the Good rides away he shoots the noose, freeing the Ugly. The Ugly then realizes that the Good has left at least one bag of gold. So, although he lost the duel, at least the Ugly makes off with some reward for his troubles.
