Eragon had no best friend other than his cousin Roran in the first book until he met Murtagh, his half brother and the son of Morzan or started to travel with Brom, the village storyteller who later turned out to be a famous Dragon Rider and Eragon's father. Eragon had first flied when his uncle Garrow was being being threatened by the Raz'zac. After that he learnt to fly properly with Brom's help.
