Traditionally Nicolaus Copernicus is traditionally credited as the first to state that Earth orbited the sun but he was only the first to describe the orbits mathematically.
Some Pythagoreans believed the Earth to be one of several planets going around a central fire.
Aristarchus of Samos was the most radical. He wrote a work, which has not survived, on heliocentrism, saying that the Sun was at the center of the universe, while the Earth and other planets revolved around it. His theory was not popular, and he had one named follower, Seleucus of Seleucia.

∙ 14y agoProbably Ugghhh the Caveman. After all, isn't it obvious? I'm standing here in my fields with my cattle on the big, flat, Earth, and that small bright Sun goes up over there, and down over THERE; can't you SEE that the Sun goes around the Earth?
The fact is, we can't always trust our own senses. I'm not moving; I'm sitting STILL. Who says that I'm actually moving 1000 miles per hour? But we are; our stillness is an illusion, because everything is in motion.
