President Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives in December 1998 but was acquitted by the Senate in January 1999. The President was accused sexual misconduct arising in both the Paula Jones lawsuit and the Linda Tripp's recordings of him and former White House internist Monica Lewinsky.
