Berlin was a city in Germany, which was split into two sides. West Berlin was jointly controlled by the British, French and Americans alt. East Berlin was part of the Soviet Union. The president of West Germany (the Capitalists) at the time was Richard von Weizsäcker.
Many believe Ronald Reagan was President, but his term ended in January of 1989, and Gearge H.W. Bush took over as President. The wall did not begin to come down until November of 1989.
