Grace Darling
That would be Grace Darling.Grace Darling was born in 1815, in Bamburgh, Northumberland, the daughter of a lighthouse keeper. Grace became a heroine on 7 September 1838. On this day, the steamship Forfarshire ran ashore and broke in two on the rocks by the lighthouse where she was living, in the North Sea. Grace and her father rowed out in treacherous conditions to the steamship where she helped rescue nine people - four crew and five passengers. Unfortunately, another forty died in the accident.

Grace Darling became famous when she saved many people from a shipwreck at the age of 22. In September 1838, the steamship Forfarshire broke in two on rocks by the lighthouse in the North Sea where her father was lighthouse keeper. Grace urged her father to row out with her in the severe storm conditions to the wrecked steamship, where she and her father saved the nine people - four crew and five passengers out of the fifty or so who were aboard the ship (the remainder were drowned).
