∙ 11y agoI may be wrong, but I'm guessing the first time was when Jesse Jackson campaigned for the 1984 Democratic Party Presidential Nomination.

I am from Indianapolis, Indiana home of Frank R. Beckwith and when I first typed in the question "who was the first African American to run for the President of the United States his name was not listed. Mr. Beckwith ran against Richard Nixon.
Hes is the only African American to win the primary to run for president, however Jesse Jackson ran in 1984 and in 1988 and Al Sharpton and Carol Braun Mosley ran in 2004.
The states or towns ran the first black school. African-American women were the teachers in these schools.
