∙ 14y agoOn December 23, 1923, Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a radio broadcast. This broadcast was his State of the Union address. Throughout his presidency, he used radio regularly to communicate with the people of the United States. He was the first president to really harness the power of radio. He used it to develop a more intimate bond with the public.

∙ 12y agoFranklin Roosevelt was the one who started the idea of regular radio broadcasts with his "fireside chats". Subsequent presidents , including President Obama , have continued the practice of making regular radio broadcasts.

The first presidential political speech on the radio originated from New York City and was broadcast on 5 radio stations. An audience estimated to be about 5 million people listened in to hear Coolidge speak. In Life and Time of Warren G.
