Actually two women have appeared on US paper money. Quote from the Related Link: "A portrait of Martha Washington graced the series 1886 and 1891 $1.00 Silver Certificates. The first, First Lady was also featured, along with her husband George, on the series 1896 $1 Silver Certificate. This bill is part of a group of notes that are often referred to as the "Educational Series." These early, large size notes display beautiful engravings and are highly sought after by collectors. The U.S. Series 1869-1878 $10.00 notes featured an engraving of the painting Introduction of the Old World to the New World, or Pocahontas Presented at Courtby T.A. Liebler."

If you include coins, three other women have been depicted: Susan B. Anthony on the ill-fated dollar coin of 1979-81 / 1999; Sacajawea on the current Native American dollar; and Helen Keller on the Alabama state quarter.

Two historical women have appeared on US paper money:

  • Pocahontas appeared on the $20 National Bank Note of 1865.
  • Martha Washington appeared on the face of the $1 Silver Certificate of 1886 and 1891, and the back of the $1 Silver Certificate of 1896.

Of course, various allegorical women such as Miss Liberty have appeared on US paper money, and coins have depicted Helen Keller, Susan B. Anthony, and Sacajawea.

Probably Martha Washington. Her portrait was on two US currency notes: the $1 silver certificate in 1886, and then again in 1891. She was also seen on the back of the 1896 Silver Certificate. As for coins, Susan B. Anthony was on a $1 coin, beginning in 1979.

Sacagawea was on the gold dollar and Susan B. Anthony was on the silver dollar from 1979 to 1981 and in 1991. Helen Keller was on the back of the Alabama quarter in 2003.

Harriet Tubman will soon be on the $20 bill.

How much is 25 nam dong to US money?

The ONLY money to have ANY value during the war was the US MPC (Military Payment Certificate or Military Payment Currency). When dealing with GI's and South Vietnamese Nationals...neither side conducted business with anything else. TODAY's 21st century currency collectors "might" be interested in those types of monies...check with "Paper Currency Collectors" first, then check with "Coin Collectors."

Who was the first person featured on United States money?

The first person to appear on US currency was the allegorical representation of Liberty, who appeared on coins from 1792 until 1945 when she last appeared on the Mercury dime. Abraham Lincoln was the first real person to appear on regular US coinage, when the first Lincoln cents issued in 1909. The first person to appear on a US coin, however, was on a commemorative quarter, in 1893; it was Queen Isabella I of Spain. In 1900, the first representations of real men appeared, Washington and Lafayette on a commemorative dollar. The first paper currency issued by the United States Treasury Department was issued in 1861. This money is called "demand notes," and was issued in denominations of five, ten, and twenty dollars. The five dollar note has a picture of Alexander Hamilton and a picture of the statue of Columbia on the Capitol Building, the ten dollar note has a portrait of Abraham Lincoln and an allegorical female representation of Art. The twenty dollar note had only a picture of Liberty. The first (and only?) actual woman to appear on US paper money was Martha Washington, who was on a couple different types of dollar bills. The Sioux Chief Onepapa once appeared on a five dollar bill. It was a handsome portrait, though he was given a Pawnee headdress to for artistic reasons.

Can I pay old notes into my bank accounts?

All valid paper currency will be accepted by a bank, regardless of age. The bank will consider paper currency invalid if it is counterfeit, been declared invalid by the government (this has been done in some countries for old currency when redefining their entire money system), the government that issued the paper currency no longer exists (e.g. Confederate States of America), it is privately printed paper currency and the bank is outside the jurisdiction of the private agency that printed it (e.g. currency printed by a town for local use only, company scrip to pay employees of that company and valid at company operated stores and banks only), etc. But even severely damaged valid paper currency will be considered valid by a bank following an inspection to determine how much is actually present, even if no intact notes still exist (e.g. a bundle of bills was burned leaving just the lower left corners of the bills identifiable).
