Sara Teasdale was not only the first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for her poetry, but also the first Prize recipient in that category. She was awarded the Pulitzer in 1918 for her collection, Love Songs. The Poetry Society provided a grant to support the this category in 1918-1920.

Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000) became the first
African-American to receive a Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1950 with
her collection, Annie Allen (Harper). She was the first
African-American to win a Pulitzer in any category.
Brooks was an acclaimed poet and author who published her first
poem at age 13. She went on to become Poet Laureate of Illinois
(1968) and Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of
Congress (1985), both high honors.
Over the course of her life, Brooks wrote 24 published books of
poetry, including the celebrated work We Real Cool (1966)
and five nonfiction titles.

Morrison.
She was born in Ohio on the 18th February 1931.
She won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993.
