Marie Sklodowska Curie was the first female Nobel Prize winner (along with her husband Pierre Curie) in 1903, in Physics. The prize was for "their joint researches on the radiation phenomena discovered by Professor Henri Becquerel." These included the discovery of the elements polonium and radium in 1898 by Curie and her husband Pierre. She won a second Nobel Prize, in Chemistry, in 1911.
