Buckingham Palace was not built until King George III's reign and was not used as an official royal residence until Queen Victoria's reign. It is a fairly new building compared to the history of the monarchy.
Actually, the first monarch to live in Buckingham Palace was Victoria. Not really so long ago. Before that it was Buckingham House. The building having had many alterations and additions is just over 300 hundred years old. It was preceded by other houses on the site for about 150 years.
