In official Chinese histories, the Yuan dynasty bore the Mandate of Heaven. The dynasty was established by Kublai Khan, yet he placed his grandfather Genghis Khan on the imperial records as the official founder of the dynasty and accorded him the temple name Taizu.

The economy of China during this period didnâ??t improve much, in fact it got worse in many respects. Much of the trade was under foreign control. As profits from the trading were taken out of China, the metal currency was depleted and this led to the use of paper money and inflation.
