The role of the patriarch was one of great responsibility. He was not only the head of his family, but the extended family as well. In tribal society, he was the local "government" head, the one who passed down the family's heritage, the organizer, protector and "CEO" over the family business, property and finances. He set the governing rules and was thefinal arbiter of disagreement.
