There has only been one: Grover Cleveland. He was the only President to ever serve nonconsecutive terms: the 22nd and 24th (1885-89) (1893-97).

He was well known to be honest, independent, and opposed to corruption and the spoils system. He had a motto, "A public office is a public trust," which demonstrated his stubborn courage and integrity.

A lot of them. You're not thinking of two non-consecutive terms, are you? There was only one of those, Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president of the US.

No US president did that. Grover Cleveland served for two non-consecutive terms and Franklin Roosevelt served more than 2 terms, but they were consecutive.

Can a president run again if they served 4 years but try again and lose?

yes. two term limit, does not have to be back to back. Technically it's 10 years. A vice president that takes office in the event the president can no longer run the country can run for office an additional 2 terms UNLESS he took power prior to the 2nd complete year of the prior president. If the elected president can no longer remain in power and the vice president takes over the office before the second year into that term he can only run for office himself once.

Can The President of the United States of America serve 2 terms that are not back to back?

Historically speaking, one person actually served two, non consecutive terms as President of the United States of America. President Grover Cleveland, a Democrat from New York, was the 22nd and the 24th President of the United States of America. As the 22nd President, he served from 1885 - 1889. As the 24th President, he served from 1893 - 1897. Nothing in the Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America which followed Grover Cleveland's 2 non-consecutive terms as President, specifically the 16th through the 27th Amendments, addresses the ability of a person to serve 2 non-consecutive terms. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude that a person may still serve 2 non-consecutive terms as President of the United States of America. A President can be elected to two terms. It does not matter if the terms are directly sequential (back to back) or not. And it's probably good for the president to wear a tie too!

Can a vice president be vice president and president for two terms?

Yes! There are no restrictions on how many terms . consecutive or otherwise , that a vice-president can serve, provided he is eligible to serve as president. ( A vice-president who later served two terms as president would not be allowed to come back and serve as vice-president again. ) No vice-president has yet served non consecutive terms but Charles Fairbanks , who was vice president from 1905 to 1909 ran again for vice president in 1916 but lost.
