Charlie is accompanied by his grandpa Joe, and each of 4 other kids are accompanied by a parent. As they tour the factory with Wonka, each of the kids falls prey to dangers there. In the end, Charlie discovers that Willy Wonka, shut off and alone, is seeking an heir. -- In the 2005 movie, Willy's candy line is becoming odd and unpopular, reflecting his depression over his life in general, and he hopes Charlie can help him with new and better ideas.
