The prospect of freedom was their main incentive. A Roman slave had the option of buying his freedom, as they were allowed savings. However many times the masters would free them as a reward for good and loyal service. The prospect of freedom was their main incentive. Hi
The answer to this question would be best said: It really depended on the slave owner. Often the slave owner would want the money he spend -- plus a little more. Often this took many years for a slave to save since they didn't get paid. Often the money they got was from extra work.. they did after their normal work was done. With that said: Often slave owners didn't see or feel the need to let a slave buy his or her own freedom and would not let him or her buy their freedom for any amount of money.
A slave in ancient Rome could not be freed until he or she had reached the age of thirty. As far as freedom itself was concerned, slaves had money, their "peculium" which they earned from tips, gifts and side jobs. They could buy their freedom once they had saved up their price. They were also freed at the decision of their maser/mistress and many slave were freed in their master's will.A slave in ancient Rome could not be freed until he or she had reached the age of thirty. Japanese women had plenty of freedom during the time of Price Shotoku, they were able to own property, had a high influence to society, and many of them were rulers. However, after Japan became a fighting based country, women had no freedom, they had to obey their father, husband, and son. They also had to take care of the home, children, make food, pottery, and clothes as well. So... women did have freedom at one point but it faded away.
