New Hampshire received its first royal charter and became a royal colony in 1680. After King Phillip's War - a devastating war fought between the colonists and the English colonists - and a series of political upheavals in the colonial government, New Hampshire was issued a new royal charter in 1691, officially becoming a royal colony for a second time.
