While the practice of slavery was common throughout the ancient world, its character varied tremendously from society to society, even within the same society. Slaves could be treated very poorly, as though they were disposable or mere property; slaves might also be valued and treated as trusted members of the family. Some slaves could earn their freedom, while others could not. Some slaves were forced to perform menial labor (such as in mines or aboard galley-vessels), other slaves worked as public servants and even in the armies of their masters, and yet others served as respected teachers or physicians.
It was considered a punishment for a town slave to be sent to the country. They were treated poorly and worked dawn to dust. Slaves would have their heads shaved and their hair would be used to make wigs for woman. hope it helps
Slaves in the ancient world were usually people in low society (farmers, peasants).
They were treated differently in different city-states, such as Sparta (Which is where I am from) called them hoplites and didn't really care about their slaves, they were usually prisoners of war, they treated them harshly and were beaten on occasion when they did something bad or wrong, and they were at the bottom of the hierarchy. Athens treated slaves more respectfully but they were still at the bottom of the hierarchy.
slaves are always treated badlyAnswer:Many ancient civilizations had codified the treatment of slave. The bible (a Christian Holy Book) defines who may be enslaved, how they must be treated, how long they could be held as slaves, punishments for mistreating slaves, etc.). In the American South the popular view is that slaves were always mistreated. Slaves were however valuable property and a wise owner had to strike a balance between protecting his investment and output. In today's world where slavery still exists (for labour, soldiers or as sexual objects) slaves are often "free" to the taker and are used as disposable items.
well i dont know me and my partner are doing a rome project in the 6th grade and i need this question answered or we are screwed if you want to learn about ancient roman slaves look at these sites http://library.thinkquest.org/26602/entertainment.htm http://www.hadrians.com/rome/romans/daily_life/roman_slaves.html They were treated terribly! They were auctioned off and fought to the death. If they were lucky. Otherwise, they had to work in dangerous situations on high mountains and cliffs. If they misbehaved, they got a lashing and were starved until they died! (If you want to learn more watch 'Spartacus')
The slaves were not treated good at all I guess you can try to imagine jail now and then multiply it by 100 and then you will see how the slaves were treated.
From the very moment in man's history there were slaves. Ancient cultures took slaves as part of war and sold them around the ancient world. Pirates were one of the major links in the selling of slaves. The gladiators of ancient Rome were men who were taken in war as slaves and put into the arena to fight. Women and children didn't escape slavery and were used as sex slaves as well as slaves for households of the wealthy.
Basically household slaves kind got paid but not public slaves
There were slaves. The rich chinese farmers treated the poor farmers as their slaves in ancient times. African slaves were also bought and sold by Arabs to GuangDong province around the Song Dynasty.
Different people had different reactions. Some were very kind to their slaves. Some were extremely cruel. Some were offended by how harshly slaves were treated by others. Early Christians accepted slaves as equals. In fact many slaves were Christians, but were treated equally at worship services.

It was terrible. Women were not considered human, and slaves were treated like trash. But the slaves didn't care, they were happy, they got food, water, and something to do.

In the ancient world, earrings were worn by slaves, as an outward sign that they were slaves. The Hebrews seemed to have reserved earrings for permanent, voluntary slaves only, not temporary ones. See Exodus 21:5,6.
They were treated badly but generally better than most other slave communities in the New World.
They were treated poorly
