George III was King of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover, (actually his title was Elector of Hanover, a portion of Germany he inherited when he became King, round about modern day Hamburg and the surrounding coast and land). He also had other German Mercenaries, as well as American Loyalists, Canadian Settlers and some Native American Tribes.

Actually, there were three allies to America aside from itself. Even half of America was not on the side of the patriots. people on Britain's side were called Loyalists, or Tories. most loyalists fled to Britain, but those who didn't were taunted by their patriot neighbors. The allies to the Patriots include the following: Spain, and France. Spain and France because of the French and Indian war. They were already mad at Britain, so when they saw the patriot's battle at saratoga, they saw a good opportunity to get revenge on the British. They sent supplies, ammunition, and many other things that helped the Patriots pull ahead in the war. With all the help, the Patriots were able to outsmart the British and make them surrender.

The American ally during the Revolutionary War was France. France gave both monetary and military aid to the Patriot army. It was after the Battle of Saratoga that the French were really brought in to help the Patriots. France declared war on Britain shortly after the colonists won that battle. Both the Spanish and the Dutch declared war on Britain during the American Revolution. That helped the colonists win their battle for freedom.
