Best Answer

The emperor wore the toga preatexta and on ceremonial occasions the toga picta. The toga preatexta was worn only by dignitaries; the emperor, the senators, the officers of state and some priests. It was white and had a broad purple border. The colour of the toga picta was imperial (or Tyrian) purple, which was reserved for the emperors. Originally it had been the toga of the kings. Other Romans wore a pain white toga.
