The Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards are considered the four major entertainment awards in American show business. Presented annually, the awards honor outstanding achievements, respectively, in film, television, music, and theater. Winning all four awards has been called the Showbiz Award Grand Slam.

Only ten people have won all four awards. Of those ten, five (5) have also won a Golden Globe.

Rita Moreno

Rita Moreno (born 1931), an actress, received her fourth distinct award in 1977. Between 1961 and 1978, Moreno received a total of 5 awards[10]. She is also the first Hispanic winner, the first winner to have won a Grammy in a singing category, and the first winner to win a Grammy as their second award (both previous winners won Tonys as their second award).

  • Academy Awards: 1961 : Best Actress in a Supporting Role - West Side Story
  • Emmy Awards:1977 : Outstanding Continuing or Single Performance by a Supporting Actress in Variety or Music - The Muppet Show 1978 : Outstanding Lead Actress for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series - The Rockford Files for the episode The Paper Palace

Audrey HepburnAudrey Hepburn (1929-1993), an actress, received her fourth distinct award posthumously in 1994. Between 1953 and 1994, Hepburn received a total of 6 awards. She was the fifth person to complete the feat and the first to do so posthumously. She was also the first winner to win two of their awards in consecutive awards shows (the 1994 Grammys were the first Grammys since her win at the 1993 Emmys).

Hamlisch has the most Oscars of any EGOT winners (3). He is the first Jewish winner and is also the first winner to have won "General Field" Grammys (Song of the Year and Best New Artist). He is also the only EGOT winner to have won multiple awards for the same work (The Way We Were won both the Oscar for Best Original Song and the Grammy for Song of the Year).

No one has ever won the four awards in the same year. The person who did it fastest was Barbra Streisand, who won two 1963 Grammys for "The Barbra Streisand Album"; a 1965 Emmy for her TV special "My Name Is Barbra"; a 1968 Academy Award for Best Actress in "Funny Girl"; and a special Tony Award in 1970.
