Then they paid for their greedy conquest with US Civil War. If the US will fight a war, they will not bother to send northern soldiers. Maybe some as reinforcements but why not send the southern forces? Even the infamous Robert E. Lee got his expirience there. Not only that, but México had to deal with various rebellions in California, Arizona, New México and has already lost Texas. Even the fact that México had joined the sizes of many superpowers at that time, it could not deal with 4 wars.
ResultsIn much of the U.S., victory and the acquisition of new land brought a surge of patriotism. Victory seemed to fulfill Democrats' belief in their country's Manifest Destiny. While Whig Emerson rejected war "as a means of achieving America's destiny," he accepted that "most of the great results of history are brought about by discreditable means."
