In 1949, the Best Actor Award was awarded to Broderick Crawford for his role in the film, 'All the King's Men', based on the 1946 Pulitzer-Prize winning novel by Robert Penn Warren about a corrupt, rising politician (which itself was based on the life of assassinated Louisiana demagogue Senator Huey Long).
