Who would win in a fight a grizzly bear or a silverback gorilla?

After much discussion between myself and many of my fellow citizens we have come to the conclusion that the grizzy bear would quite simply destroy the silverback. Although the silverback is stronger and has apposeble thumbs the grizzly has razor sharp claws and theeth. If it's a matter of weight all my resources have said that they weigh about the same, anywhere between 500-700 LBS. Plus the grizzly is faster and quicker to react than the silverback.

∙ 12y agoIt depends on the circumstances, and who gets more angry easily and who is much stronger. A tiger could kill a gorilla, but it would have some difficulties since gorillas have so much muscles and strength with its body. If a gorilla fought a tiger, the tiger might win in some cases.

An elephant would win most of the time but what you need to remember is that a gorilla is smarter, has Thumbs, is more agile, and could easily just move out of the way of a charge gorillas can lift up to more than 8-12 men and more and have sharp teeth and an extremely strong jaw a fully grown male silverback gorilla is not that stupid

∙ 14y agoit would have to do with the envioment. if there's lots of trees around then i say gorilla. but in wide open space brown bear might gust win it
I'm afraid I'll have to disagree quite strongly. Bears are very tough, strong and have plenty of stamina, but a silverback gorilla is like the bully at school that hit puberty long before anyone else. (Sorry, but I couldn't think of anything else ^^)
For example, a few years ago, a Silverback was being transported between zoo's, and they accidently left him in the truck (One of those vehicles with the long rectangle carriage on the back, which is detachable... My minds gone blank O.o) Now, this is specially designed for large, strong animals, so very strong. The gorilla got bored, so he punched straight through it, and went looking for stuff to eat.
Anyway, what I'm saying is that although the bear would be a hard fight, not only is the gorilla a bit stronger, but more agile, and able to turn and use it's arms and hands more then the bear, grapple, if you like.
