J.R.R. (John Ronald Reuel) Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings, Prologue, six books and six appendices published in three volumes.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was written by J. R. R. Tolkien. The three volumes were first published between 1954 and 1955. Tolkien had originally intended publication as a two-volume work. However, his publisher advocated publication as a trilogy due to post-war paper shortages.
