S.T.Coleridge's The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner is about the guilt of killing a fortune bringer and it's horrid after effects and the later salvation through prayer. The story is told as happening in a ghost ship in mid sea.

Coleridge was inspired. He got the idea for writing it from a discussion he had with fellow poet William Wordsworth about a book Wordsworth was reading called A Voyage Round The World by Way of the Great South Sea. In the book, the captain of the ship shoots a black albatross as happens in Coleridge's poem.

The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner was written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in the Eighteenth Century. It is the story of a ghost ship which became so, following the killing of an Albatross which followed the ship with good luck and favourable weather. Since killing this bird, the sailors dropped dead one by one and from then onwards it was navigated by a ghastly crew. But when one day, after these horrible events, the only man alive on the ship was able to pray, the sin was forgiven by the mighty elements, there was redemption and the ship was directed to the shore and safety by divine hands. This classic poem was meant to be written as a fine Horror poem in which the poet succeeded brilliantly.

The log book of a ship is where the captain writes everything that happens on a voyage. Things written in the log book could be fights between crew, deaths on the ship, meals that were had, and more.
