Back in those days the credits for movies weren't very detailed so many people went uncredited. But Herbert Stothart wrote the main music for the movieand Robert W Stringer, George E Stoll, and George Bassman wrote additional music for some of the scenes.

All of the songs in the beloved 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz were written by Edgar Yipsel Harburg [April 8, 1896-March 4, 1981]. Harburg was born Isidore Hochberg, on the lower east side of New York City. He went to high school at Townsend Harris, where he became friends with Israel Gershovitz ka Ira Gershwin [December 6, 1896-August 17, 1983]. That friendship served him well after the Stock Market crash of 1929. At the time, Harburg was co-owner of Consolidated Electrical Appliance Company. He ended up $50,000-$70,000 in debt. Harburg insisted upon paying off that debt. He did so, thanks to friend Gershwin, with whom he teamed up as song lyricist. Ultimately, that led him to songwriting for the movie production of The Wizard of Oz.
