Earth only has one moon and most people call it moon. But every moon is given a Latin name. The moons Latin name is Luna.

Curt is correct, but Luna actually means moon in Latin. So when the Romans talked about the moon they said luna, in small letters. Just like we do with moon rather than Moon, which is the name of our moon.

Bottom line, both the Romans and the English speaking nations have named our moon as Moon, but in their respective languages.

The English name for Earth's natural satellite is, simply, the Moon (capitalized).

Moon is a Germanic word, related to the Latin mensis (month). It is ultimately a derivative of the Proto-Indo-European root me-, also represented in measure (time), with reminders of its importance in measuring time in words derived from it like Monday, month and menstrual. The related adjective is lunar, as well as an adjectival prefix seleno- and suffix -selene (from selēnē, the Ancient Greek word for the Moon).

There is no real reason, if you are religious, it is hard to tell you why, but if not, creationism wouldn't be the answer which means that the universe started with a BIG BANG. Now this doesn't really explain why the moon is here right, WRONG. The big bang created everything, again if your religious, the big bang is not the answer. Anyways because of the big bang billions of galaxies, stars, planets and moons were created. So the moon really has no importance, it is like a satelite that orbits our planet. Some planets don't have them, and there's nothing wrong with that. But the moon can cause different planetary climats, for example the 2012 theory (not to scare you if you are) says that the word will end, but one of the ways is by a small planet comming in orbit with ours. This will cause climat change (do not get this distracted with global worming) and it says that a planet, two times smaller than the moon will turn Alberta into a desert, British Columbia into the Pacific Ocean, and the Sahara will be the biggest tropical rain forest. This is done with a special program the government, google, wikipedia, nasa, and large coorperations can play with. So I think that if the moon wasn't here, none of us are here today, so if you are religious think of it as god but a moon to allow us to survive. In uncreationist words, the moon allows us to survive, the plants to survive, the world to survive, don't take the moon for granted like we take the earth. We are one in a trillionth, we are the best place in the universe!

Moon is a Germanic word derived from methas which means month in Greek. The moon itself was used to measure the length of time from one month to the next (though not as accurately as we do today). The cycle of the moon's phases is actually the root of its name.

Because that is its official name in English. Until 400 years ago, it was the one and only Moon known to humans, so it was simply called "the Moon." Then Galileo discovered that Jupiter had four moons.

The word moon is derived from the Old English word mona, meaning month. There are similar words in Old Frisian, Middle Dutch, Old Saxon, Old Icelandic and Danish. When referring to Earth's moon it should be capitalized: the Moon. Keep in mind that the Moon's phases have long been used as a measure of time.
