The brake light on most vehicles is not only an indicator that the parking brake is on, but that there is a problem with the system.
The BRAKE(!) light will go on steady without the parking brake on.
Maybe the problem lies in the switch that operates the "brake" light when the parking brake is applied. The DRL do not light up until the parking brake is released. I know that if my parking brake pedal is down so much as one "click" of the ratchet mechanism, the DRL do not illuminate.
A diagram to replace the brake light on a 1999 Tahoe can be purchased from your local auto parts store. It is located in the Haynes 1999 Tahoe Repair Manual.
How do you replace a break light switch on 1995 Chevy Tahoe
Look under the area where the brake lever is and follow the cable to the plate on the side where you will find the broken part of the cable pointing to the tab the cable connects to. Pull the tab upward but be warned your arm will get hit by the parking brake itself as it is released.
behind the brake pedal
If its broken, then the cable is released. IF the breaks are still sticking, then the rear brakes will have to be opened up and the mechanism freed up.
The brake light switch can be found below the dashboard on the drivers side of the passenger compartment. The brake light switch simply plugs in and out.
There is no such thing as an "Emergency brake" in a vehicle. The PARKING BRAKE is the pedal to the far left against the edge of the driver's footwell. The handle above the pedal is the release.
about 3 dollars
The light assy has to come off and there a couple of screws you get to from inside to remove the light.
You need to CHECK the brake light FUSE with a test light. If the fuse is okay then check the brake light switch. That is just above the steering column under the dash. It is H..L to get to.
